I Love Cookie Tins
Do you use cookie tins? I remember when I was growing up and first learned to bake. That’s how we stored our baked cookies. We’d layer the cookies, wax paper in between, close the lid tightly and store in a cool, dark, dry spot in the basement. This kept the cookies perfectly fresh for weeks ahead of the holiday. And kept them safely out of snacking sight.
Somewhere along the way we discovered Tupperware-like plastics and began using them instead of cookie tins. These containers are great for some types of cookies, mostly chewy ones like macaroons. Other types of cookies like thumbprints and biscotti, can become soft and mushy.
Cookie tins always seem secretive and special. They make you wonder what’s inside. If you are baking multiple flavors of cookies, tins can keep each flavor fresh for advance storage. Each cookie can keep its’ own character, flavor and texture independently. Then you can make an assorted plate right before serving.
And cookie tins make such a great gift!
